San Clemente Island Chapter

American History: San Clemente Island Chapter coordinates an American History essay contest annually for 5th to 8th graders in local schools. Essays are reviewed by independent judges and prizes are awarded.

Commemorative Events: Our chapter participates in the Memorial Day ceremony and laying of wreaths at San Clemente Community Center each year to honor our military and veterans.

Community Classroom: Our program on George Washington and the American Revolution was presented to over 600 elementary school children. We distributed American flags, coloring pages and crayons. What a great way to celebrate Presidents’ Day!

Constitution Week: San Clemente Island Chapter celebrates the signing of the United States Constitution on September 17, 1787 with library displays, a luncheon and the ringing of the bells at Mission San Juan Capistrano. City Councils award a proclamation annually declaring Sept. 17-23 Constitution Week, a time of reflection, education and celebration.

DAR Good Citizens: Our chapter recognizes good citizens from local high schools with an annual essay contest, luncheon and scholarships.

DAR Project Patriot: Supporting our military is a priority with San Clemente Island Chapter DAR. We participate in a holiday turkey dinner and toy drive for Camp Pendleton Marines, as well as the Marine Wives’ baby shower in the spring.

DAR Schools: Last year chapter members made 16 fleece tie-blankets for the children at Tamassee DAR School in South Carolina, a home for neglected and abandoned children. We collect box tops for Tamassee as well as pop tops for the Ronald McDonald House here in Orange County.
